First prize for the design of the "Südbrücke“ by Walter A. Noebel and Martin Krone. In 1994 a nationwide bridge design competition took place for a town bridge which was required to be integrated into the new "Wasserstadt Oberhavel" development in Berlin. Eighty-three sub-missions were received.
The winning design included the following features:
Total length 302.5 m, total width 28 m
Steel superstructure with two 1.4 m high box girders
Foundation for the substructures with large in-situ concrete piles due to the difficult subsoil which had organic layers up to 18 m thick
Installation of special absorbing bearings to avoid resonance effects
