The winner of a Europe-wide architectural competition was a design by the Finnish architect Pekka Salminen, which was used for the conversion of the church to a concert hall.


The consulting engineer Ingenieurbüro Krone was responsible for the structural design of the following elements:

• Glass roof and ceilings
• Acoustic glass wall and ceiling panels
• Glass wall panels with glass fins
• Glass gangway between the stairways
• Construction consent for the glass structures by test-
  ing with special permission by the legislative body

For the structural glass design for the conversation of the "Marienkirche" church to a concert hall, Ingenieur-büro Krone received the "State Structural Enginee-ring Award" Landesbaupreis Mecklenburg Vorpommern 2002.
