The Institute for Applied Science in Civil Engineering (IaFB) was founded by interested members of the Structural Engineering Consulting Firm Martin Krone in Berlin.

While working on a large number of high profile projects and through its deployment as a chartered proof check engineer, the firm identified a large demand for the management of research programmes with a practical use in the Structural and Civil Engineering industry.
To serve these needs the institute IaFB was founded in 2002 and provides a platform for the professional management and execution of research projects.
The firm’s innovative spirit, quality focus, efficiency and reliability were the basis of the foundation of IaFB and are an integral part of this organisation.
Purpose of the Institute:
The purpose of the institute is the promotion and support of science and research in Civil and Structural Engineering.
The development of scientific research and progress in new structures, refurbishment and heritage prevention and its commonly usage in the society is the main focus of the institute.
To achieve these aims the institute takes the following actions:

Fostering, support and execution of research projects in all areas of Structural and Civil Engineering

Cooperation with Universities, Technical Colleges and other scientific and research organisations as long as they are mutual organisations, non profit or organisation constituted by public law

Development and maintenance of connections between science and the industry through the usage of interdisciplinary communication of all partners involved in the construction industry

The introduction of research results in the industry and their timely publication, especially by the organisation of conferences, presentations, the issuing of research publications and statements to promote the scientific results

Involvement in the development and introduction of technical standards
To deliver the instated aims the institute is a organisation of professionals from all areas in Civil and Structural Engineering.
The objective of the institute is to act for the public welfare.
